Introduction – What is the SAT???
The SAT is a three hour standardized test. It stands
for “Standard Aptitude Test.” Although, the SAT is supposed
to test one’s knowledge and ability, it actually one’s
keenness, hard-work and dedication, basic knowledge,
and the ability to take standardized tests. In short,
the SAT measures how well you take a standardized test.
So, the game can be fair or unfair as even the average,
basic knowledge student combined with hard work can
extraordinarily surpass the test. On the other hand,
a bright student who has in-depth knowledge of any subject
combined with the powers of Albert Einstein’s mind,
but lacking hard-work may not do as well on this test.

“Unless a person prepares for the sat, he/she is at
a dis-advantage.” Karan Khanna.
Tell me more…
There are seven sections which make up the SAT. Three
sections of Mathematics, three sections of Verbal, and
an experimental section which is comprised of either
maths or verbal. The experimental section does not contribute
to the overall score, but serves as a basis of comparing
the test to other ones by the ETS (Educational Testing
Service, which makes the SAT’s). But, the student does
not know which is the Experimental Section. Therefore,
each section is equally important.
Note: verbal section=English.
How is the SAT scored???
The SAT is scored on a 1600 scale. The Math and Verbal
sections each have a maximum of 800 points. There are
a minimum of 200 points attainable in each section.
The Math section only requires knowledge of Math upto
8th or 9th grade. The Verbal section on the other hand
is more arduous. It requires profound knowledge to thousands
of Vocabulary words. The best way to start preparation
of the SAT is to take a practice test online. It can
be taken at any age and I would encourage students to
start preparation early, maybe even before 9th grade,
if time allows.
Therefore, it is very important to first take a practice
test. Don’t get scared if you score low. Hard-work and
dedicated effort can certainly raise your score. Next,
study vocabulary. Better knowledge of vocabulary and
implementation == better score. I recommend visiting
www.freevocabulary.com and learning the words there
for a start. Also, read books, articles on www.nytimes.com,
the readers digest magazine, your local newspaper, www.time.com,
etc.

3. What score do I need to get into a good college/university.
It certainly depends on the university/college. Different
colleges require different scores. Moreover, Sat is
not the only thing that colleges see in judging a candidate
for admission. There are various other factors involved
including but not limited to grades, sports and other
activities, demonstrating leadership, community service,
etc. for an ivy-league university, aim for 1450 or more…
I will be putting an article on this up soon. For better
